1.the police와 Police의 차이
I like my mother=I like Mother.
이것과 같은 논리입니다. 즉 정관사나 소유형용사 등 제한하는 품사가 앞에 붙을 때에는 나의 우리나라의 등 가장 원초적인 의미로 해석됩니다. 여기서도 the police로 하지않고 Police로 대문자로 쓰면 바로 우리나라 경찰로 해석됩니다.

2.집합명사를 단수로 쓸 때와 복수로 쓸 때의 차이
자..이것을 설명하자면 지시체(refered and reference)의 개념을 생각해야 합니다.
지시체라는 것은 무엇인가 하면 그 표현이나 단어가 무엇을 가리키나 하는 것에 따라 단수와 복수로 씁니다.
여기서도 the media라는 것이 매체라는 그 기능이나 전체 집단을 머리에 떠올리면서 화자가 말을 할 때에는 the media를 단수로 받겠지요. 그러나 the media라고 하면서 온갖 신문이나 방송국들을 다 떠올리면서 말하는 문맥일 때에는 복수로 받게 됩니다.
그래서 이런 경우 지시체에 따라 결정되는데 듣는 사람 역시 그 문맥에 제대로 몰입해 있다면 전혀 이해에 문제가 생기기 않습니다.

결국 문법은 상황과 분리해서 생각할 수 없다는 것이 바로 이런 지시체의 문제에서 드러납니다.

그런데 우리나라는 문법에서 그냥 뭐는 뭐 그런 식으로 외우기를 시키고 그것을 현지언어경험과 다양한 언어모델처리경험이 거의 없는 교사들이 시험문제로 출제하기 때문에 그런 문법집착증을 보이게 되는 것이지요.

이제 학교 현장에서도 실제 인간들이 서로 대화하는 실제적인 문장들을 많이 읽혀야 한다고 생각합니다.

위 CNN기사 중 명사 police에 관해서 질문합니다. Police는 늘 정관사the를 취하며, 복수취급한다고 합니다. 그러나 기사에서는 정관사를 거의 사용하지 않는 것 같은 데, 신문기사에서만 허용되나요?

그리고 the media와 the press는 복수동사로 받아야 하는 데, 기사에서 보면 거의 단수동사를 사용합니다. 헷갈려서 그러는 데 그냥 단수동사로 받는 것으로 이해해도 될까요?
