1. 학부에서는 요즘 휴학을 많이 하는데,
통역대학원 학생들도 휴학을 많이 하나요?
그렇담 통대생들의 휴학 사유는 주로 무엇인가요?
만약 사정이 생겨 휴학을 하게 되면 공부의 맥이 끊기지 않을까 하는
 걱정이 되는데, 이에 대해서 교수님은 어떻게 생각하시나요?

---학과에 따라 다르지만 통대에서도 휴학을 합니다.
가장 큰 이유는 일단 통대에 들어와보니
 자신이 모자람을 절감하고
 휴학기간동안 해당 외국에 수학하러가거나
 국내에서 실력을 배양해보려는 거지요.

저는 휴학에 절대 반대합니다.
공부의 맥이 끊길 우려도 있고,
어느 외국의 어느 학교에 가도,
우리 통대 수준에 맞는, 통대 공부에 도움이 되는
 과정은 없다는 이유에서입니다.

2. 그리고 곽교수님께서도 혹시 안식년 계획이 있으신지요?

 할 일이 많아 연기할 예정입니다.
저는 1999년에 교수로 임용됐기 때문에
 아직 지치지 않아 몇 년 더 일하고 안식하라는
 선배 교수들의 조언을 받아들일 겁니다.
