이 기사를 읽다보니 저번에 중국에 갔을 때가 생각이 나네요.
우리는 중국인들은 영어를 전혀 못 한다고 생각했거든요.
그런데 웬걸, 김포에서 중국민항기를 타고 떠날 때부터 중국인 스튜어드들의 유창하고 거침없는 영어에 놀라 기절할 뻔 했구, 거기 가서는 홍콩계 중국인들의 영국식 아름다운 발음에 또 나가자빠질 뻔 했답니다.
베이징에는 외국인들도 많이 있었고 특히나 유럽인, 유럽인들 중에서도 독일인들이 많이 있다고 합니다. 베이징에는 개를 못 키우게 되어있는데....더럽고 그 시간에 일하라구....법으로 금지...그런데 외국인만은 애완견을 키우도록 허가가 되어 있다는군요. 개를 끌고 가는 금발의 외국인들이 심심찮게 보입니다.
그러므로 중국 시장이 개방되면 우리도 영어로 한 몫 중국에 가서 하리란 생각은 정말 우물안 개구리같은 생각임을 알았습니다.

우리나라 사람들 영어 더 열심히 해야 할 것 같아요.
